Hey Y'all! I'm on a Fall Colors Workshop that my camera club does each year. We're in Pennsylvania this year but that will be another blog. This weeks blog is about a little camera that I got just before this trip. As you know if you follow me I've started adding a little video to my blogs to better explain whatever the topic is. I have incorporated wireless microphones into the video mix trying to make as good as a video that I can. In the past I have used GoPros for a lot of my adventure video like hiking and camping. The problem with these older GoPro's is that you can't easily hook a microphone to them. I have recently got some DJI Mic Mini microphones and a DJI Mobile 7p gimbal that I can use with my phone. The mics can also be used with my Sony A6700 but they will not hook up to my GoPros with out using a "Media Mod" that you have to attach to the GoPro so you could hook a receiver to it. I got one of these and it works but it makes the GoPro big and bulky. And if you need to change the battery or get the SD card out you have to take the Media Mod off. Kind of a pain. So I vowed not to use the GoPro on this Workshop that I'm on. I have been looking at the DJI Nano for a while because the DJI Mic Mini's would sync right up to the Nano without any fuss or attachments. But I didn't want to spend the money right away. But then they went on sale so I got one two days before my trip. Let me tell you about this Tiny action/video camera.

DJI Osmo Nano. The Nano comes in two parts. The camera part and the detachable screen part or

"Vision Dock" as DJI calls it. The camera portion of the Nano is about the size and shape of your thumb. It is magnetized and can stick on anything metal which makes it very good for interesting POV "Point of View" Shots. It is water proof up to 10 meters and being so small it is very portable and you can conceal it better than a normal GoPro sized camera. It has internal memory which when you purchase it can be 64 or 128 gigabytes. I chose the 128 version just because there was only a 20 dollar difference between the two. It has also an internal battery that is USB C chargeable. There is no screen on the camera portion that is where the Vision Dock comes in. The dock is part battery , screen and storage. It can be used as a remote and doesn't need to be connected to the camera to work. You control all the settings from the dock on an easy to use touch screen. Every time you dock the Vision Dock to the camera portion the dock will recharge the camera portion of the Nano to make sure it's always

charged. The Vision Dock also has a slot for a SD card where you can transfer the video from the camera to the SD card freeing up space if you want. You can manage all of this when the dock is hooked to the camera portion of the Nano. DJI says that when fully charged the Nano (Camera and Vision dock) you can get 200 min. of record time before having to recharge. I think that's pushing it a bit. Shooting at 4k I don't think it will last that long. DJI microphones will connect automatically after being paired for the first time. You can control the mics output from gain and noise cancellation from the dock. With the doc and the camera hooked together they are about the same size as a traditional action camera. The standard accessories that come with the camera are a necklace that has a plate that the nano can magnetically connect to. A clip that can hook to a ball cap. A suction cup and a small ball head with a 1/4 " mount that you can connect to many other accessories you may already have. You can buy another mount that makes DJI fit all the GoPro accessories that you may already have.

This tiny camera that can fit in your pocket can be great for POV shots hooked to your chest or your hat. The stabilization is great and gives it a gimbal like look when walking and talking VLOGS. Being able to stick this on a metal surface can give you unique shots that you can't get with normal cameras.

Well it's been a week since I wrote the above and I just got back from my trip to Pennsylvania with my camera club. Let me tell you that the little DJI Osmo Nano was awesome. It was great for POV shots. One shot we were on a train and I stuck it to the side of the train and filmed myself and my wingman Robert and it turned out pretty cool. The small size let me attach it to my chest with the included necklace that you can stick it on by magnetization . Worked like a champ. With the small form factor it can hook to your chest and people really don't notice it to much. The video that I get out of it is sharp and the colors are great. I am very pleased with it and can't wait to use it again.
